Parents often find themselves carrying their crying babies at the middle of the night hoping to make them go back to sleep so that they themselves can get some rest. But babies will try your patience. It is now up to the parents to device a way to make them calm down, or they should probably uncover why babies are crying at the top of their lungs at a very unholy hour.
The following are reasons why babies cry and how to make them at ease again:
Babies cry because they are hungry. The first thing mothers should do is to carry the baby and offer her milk. If the baby is hungry she will immediately suck at the mother’s nipple. She will continue this until she has had enough. While at this, she may eventually fall asleep.
Babies cry because they need diaper change. Babies easily fuss and cry if they are not comfortable with their clothes. Wet diapers are in close contact with babies’ skin so this may cause uneasiness for the baby. A skin that has been in contact with wet diapers for a long period of time may eventually form rashes which could be a cause for more irritation. It is better to look out for signs of skin allergies.
Babies cry because they may be unable to tolerate the surrounding temperature. Babies can detect even slight changes in temperature due to their very fragile body. Babies have less fat and fat warm us up. If your baby cries because of this, cover her up that she may feel warm again. If the opposite happens and she feels hot, place her in a cool place/part of the room. You may also opt to reduce the clothing and blanket you wrapped her in.
Babies cry because they want to be carried or held. Many babies cry for this reason alone. Babies who are used to being held most often cry when they are put down on their cribs. So as much as possible give your babies ample time to be free from your arms. Too much carrying may result in a very dependent and fussy baby.
Babies cry because they want attention. This is one of the most difficult problems parents have to deal with. Babies who always cry to get attention are the most difficult cases of all since it is not like babies that need feeding or changing nappies. Attention is something that parents cannot always give their babies so they may have to find a way around this.
Babies cry because they do not feel good. If babies keep on crying with no apparent reason at all, it could be because she wants attention or may be feeling something. A baby who continuously cries may be ill or is coming down with something.
