Bright Ideas for Baby
A baby is born with a need to be loved - and never outgrows it.
Food Allergies

Allergy, though considered a common disease among people, is not very easy to detect and treat. There are allergies that appear as simple rashes but there also those which can be life-threatening. These allergies may affect airway function. This is something babies cannot afford to have with their very fragile condition.

Studies have shown that about 6 percent of American kids, at one time or another, experience being victimized by foods which cause allergies. If a baby eats something and this isn’t received well by the body, antibodies will be released to combat the allergens. This will then cause an allergic reaction.

Causes of allergy may come from all around your baby. The surroundings may bring with it allergens which can easily pull your baby’s defenses down. But the most common form of allergen comes from foods.

An allergic reaction from food may be apparent immediately after intake or it could also be as long as several hours or days. The symptoms may include the following: swelling, hive, vomiting, diarrhea, red patches, or abdominal pains. In an allergic reaction, one or two symptoms may appear but there are instances when all of the symptoms appear all at once.

Those symptoms with immediate onset are the most severe forms of allergies. A baby may experience difficulty of breathing, tongue and mouth swelling with associated gastrointenstinal swelling, and wheezing. A severe reaction with all of these components present is called anaphylaxis. This is the type of allergic reaction which is life-threatening.

Children who present with allergic reactions most often get them from food allergens present in nuts, soy, milk, fish, eggs, and wheat. A family history of food allergy is also important to take note of since the offspring has twice the chance to have allergies himself. Here is the good news, it is possible t outgrow food allergies. At the age of 5 kids can eat mostly anything without experiencing an allergic reaction.

But what are the things parents must do and remember when their children have allergic reactions? For babies who are starting to eat, parents can introduce a new food every week to check out if the baby’s body is receptive to it. A more frequent change in diet may not clearly show as to what food your kid may be allergic to. Parents cannot pinpoint the specific food allergen for kids who have had various food intake in just a span of several days. Parents can also go to a pediatrician to ask for assistance if and when the baby gets an allergic reaction. It is best to be prepared and anticipation of this sort of thing happening will ensure that babies are given the best possible care by conscientious parents
